The definitive pairing

Where Royal's Giants Belong

Royal Caribbean built its empire on this sea: short Bahamas hops and 7-night Eastern and Western loops anchored by Perfect Day at CocoCay — the private island whose waterpark, balloon, and beach clubs consistently outscore every ‘real’ port on guest surveys. On Icon and Oasis-class hardware, the ship-plus-island combination is the strongest family package in cruising.

How to choose

Match the Ship to the Loop

The fleet logic is simple once decoded: Icon and Oasis-class ships dominate the 7-night Eastern/Western rotations from Florida — pick these for maximum onboard spectacle plus CocoCay. Shorter 3-4 night Bahamas runs suit first-timers testing the waters, and Galveston's based giants serve the whole middle of the country without a flight.

Our booking counsel: CocoCay appears on most, not all, itineraries — verify it if the island is the point (it usually should be). And cabin location math matters more on 5,000-guest ships; we place you where the walk is short and the noise isn't.

  • Icon-class 7-nights — the full spectacle: waterparks, AquaDome, CocoCay
  • Bahamas 3–4 night samplers — first-cruise confidence builders
  • Southern loops — longer runs reaching Aruba and Curaçao
  • Perfect Day at CocoCay — confirm it's on your itinerary — we always do

Good-to-Know FAQs

For maximum wow, Icon of the Seas and her Oasis-class siblings — they’re the reason people fall for cruising. For value with most of the fun, Freedom and Voyager classes quietly deliver. Tell us your crew’s ages and budget; the right hull picks itself.

When your itinerary calls there — and most Bahamas and many 7-night loops do — the island itself is free: beaches, Oasis Lagoon, food included. The waterpark and cabanas are paid upgrades we can price ahead. We confirm the CocoCay stop on every booking; it matters.

Early — summer and holiday weeks on the marquee ships sell their family cabins (especially connecting rooms) six months to a year out. Wave Season (January–March) booking for the following school breaks is the sweet spot we steer families toward.

It depends how you drink, and there is one rule that decides it for you: if any adult in your stateroom buys the Deluxe Beverage Package, every adult in that stateroom has to buy it as well. Caribbean sailings are heavy on sea days and pool bars, which is where packages earn their keep. If you are mostly ashore on port days, the maths gets tighter. Tell us your itinerary and drinking habits and we will work out whether it pays.

Usually one on a shorter sailing and two on a week-long Caribbean itinerary, though Royal sets the number by cruise length at the ship’s discretion. Royal calls it Dress Your Best — suits, cocktail dresses and gowns for those who enjoy it, smart alternatives for those who do not. The rest of the week is Casual or Smart Casual. Whatever the night, bare feet are not permitted in any venue and swimwear stays on the pool deck.

Eastern loops lean towards beaches and easy port days — think St Thomas, St Maarten and Perfect Day at CocoCay, with shorter sailing distances and more time alongside. Western itineraries trade some beach time for variety: Cozumel, Roatan, Costa Maya and the Mayan ruins, with more to do beyond the sand. First-timers and families usually prefer Eastern; repeat cruisers and anyone who wants excursions with substance tend to pick Western. We book both every week and will match one to your group.

Yes. Adventure Ocean runs fleetwide and splits children aged three to twelve into Aquanauts, Explorers and Voyagers, each with their own space and programming. Select ships also carry the Royal Babies and Tots Nursery for six to thirty-six months, which is a drop-off service with an hourly fee and limited spaces — book it early on a Caribbean week, because it fills. Teen spaces run separately. Tell us your children’s ages and we will confirm what your specific ship offers.

Miami and Port Canaveral carry the biggest Royal ships and the widest choice of itineraries, and both are easy to reach. Fort Lauderdale is a short hop from its own airport and often quieter on turnaround day. Galveston opens the Western Caribbean to anyone who would rather drive than fly. San Juan puts you deeper into the islands from day one, which suits Southern Caribbean loops. The port often decides the ship, so it is worth settling first.
