Cruises from New York
Sail out past the Statue of Liberty with the skyline filling the stern rail — New York’s three terminals launch Bermuda springs, Caribbean winters, and the great fall foliage runs.
Why Start in New York
Twenty million people can reach these piers without an airplane — and the sail-away repays them instantly: down the Hudson past Midtown’s wall of glass, under the Verrazzano’s span, saluting the Statue on the way to sea. Cunard’s transatlantics leave from Brooklyn as they always have; Bermuda, the Caribbean, and New England round the calendar.
Three Piers, One Harbor
Know your terminal: Manhattan's west-side piers put embarkation amid the city itself; Brooklyn's Red Hook terminal (Cunard's U.S. home) faces the harbor with Liberty views; Cape Liberty in Bayonne, NJ — Royal Caribbean's base — offers drive-in ease with the skyline across the water. All three share the same glorious exit route.
Seasonality is New York's rhythm: Bermuda's pink sand from spring through fall, Canada/New England's foliage in September-October, and winter escapes running south when the city needs escaping most. And year-round, the QM2 keeps the Southampton crossing alive from Brooklyn — the last true ocean liner service on Earth.
Where You Can Sail From Here
New York's calendar rotates with the seasons — each one with a signature run.
- Bermuda (Apr–Nov) — the overnight-in-port pink-sand classic, 5–7 nights
- Canada & New England (Sep–Oct) — foliage, lighthouses, and lobster by sea
- Caribbean winters — 7–10 nights south without an airport
- Transatlantic crossings — QM2's Southampton service from Brooklyn — the legend itself
The commute is a subway ride.
The send-off is the Statue of Liberty.
Cruises from New York FAQs
Which New York cruise terminal will my ship use?
Line determines pier: Norwegian and several others use Manhattan’s west side, Cunard (and some Princess) sail from Brooklyn’s Red Hook, and Royal Caribbean bases at Cape Liberty in Bayonne. Each has different transport math — part of what we sort when we book you.
Do I need a car or flight for a New York departure?
That’s the beauty: the entire Northeast can arrive by train. Cabs and transit reach Manhattan and Brooklyn easily; Cape Liberty favors drivers (with on-site parking) or car service. No TSA line has ever improved a vacation.
Is the Bermuda run from New York worth it?
It might be the best-kept simple pleasure in cruising: a sea day and change each way, then the ship parks at King’s Wharf for days as your pink-sand hotel. See our full Bermuda guide — spring slots book fast.
How much is parking at the New York cruise terminals?
Both the Manhattan and Brooklyn terminals charge forty-five dollars a night. Manhattan is credit card only and has not taken cash since 2020, while Brooklyn accepts both. Manhattan also has an eight-foot-three height restriction in its garage, which matters if you are arriving in anything tall.
What does a taxi from the airports to the Manhattan terminal cost?
The terminal publishes guide fares before tolls and tips: JFK is a fifty-two dollar flat rate, LaGuardia runs roughly twenty-five to thirty-five dollars, and Newark is around eighty to a hundred and should be agreed with the driver in advance. Brooklyn’s fares differ, with JFK noticeably cheaper and Newark about the same.
How long does disembarkation take in New York?
Quicker than most people expect at Manhattan. Ships arrive between seven and eight in the morning, and passengers who parked at the terminal are typically through customs and off the property by half past ten. Build your flight around that rather than the first arrival time, and give yourself room for the drive out to the airports.
How do you reach the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal on public transport?
With some effort — this is the one genuinely awkward terminal of the three. There is no subway stop at the door: the usual route is the F train to Smith and 9th Street, then a bus, and then a walk of several long blocks to the entrance. With luggage, a cab or car service is the sensible call.
Is autumn a risky time to sail from New York?
It carries some hurricane exposure, since the Atlantic season runs to the end of November and peaks in September. That overlaps the Canada and New England foliage sailings and the tail of the Bermuda season. Ships reroute around weather rather than cancel, so treat it as a chance of a changed itinerary rather than a reason to avoid the season.
